1.Generating ideas – Often the hardest part is knowing what to write about. The trick here is to always be on the lookout for ideas and to make sure you have a way of jotting them down.
Personally, I type them into a notes folder on my phone. Or, if I’m driving, I’ll record it as a voice note. You might prefer to write it in a notebook. Whatever works!
To get you started, thinking about the most frequently asked questions you get from your customers and write blogs to answer them.
If one customer has asked you a question, you can bet another 10 have typed that same question into Google.
If you have a blog that answers the question, you’re going to rank highly in the search!
2. Spend time on the headline – If you’re posting a link to your blog onto social media (which I recommend you do), then the headline is what sells the blog. It needs to be catchy, and it needs to intrigue the reader. A good headline can easily 10x the number of readers you get.
As a rule, if it takes me an hour to write a blog, I’ll spend a further 15 minutes crafting the headline. That’s how important it is!
3. Include an image (and make it a good one) – Again, this is very important when posting blogs on social media. A strong image really catches people’s attention.
Be aware that a lot of people will ONLY look at the image and won’t read the caption straight away.
To get more people to read your caption and click on the blog, try to incorporate the headline into the image, and state that it’s a blog (like the image on this blog!)
4. Just write – When you are typing up the first draft, don’t worry about spelling, grammar, or even if it makes much sense. Just blast out everything you want to say. Then give yourself some time away from the piece and come back to do the editing separately. Working like this helps your writing to flow better, and it’ll have fewer errors when you come to publish it.
5. Practice, practice, practice – Writing blogs, creating headlines and designing images are skills that take time to develop. Write as often as you can, and you’ll be amazed how much your skills develop.
