There is an old joke in the marketing / SEO world…
Question: Where’s the best place to hide a dead body?
Answer: Page 2 of Google.
What this basically means is that, if your website doesn’t appear on the first page of a Google search, then nobody is going to find it.
So, how do you make sure your website appears at the top of Google searches?
Well, Google says this on its developer website:
‘When a user enters a query, our machines search the index for matching pages and return the results we believe are the highest quality and most relevant to the user’
The keywords here are ‘highest quality’ and ‘most relevant’
Google also says that relevancy is determined by hundreds of factors, so this blog is not about me showing you how to trick your way to the top of the results page.
Essentially, it is very simple. Your potential customers are typing questions into Google about hiring a decorator and everything that goes along with that. Your job is to make sure that your website has the most relevant answers to these questions.
Think about it from the perspective of your customers and start updating your website to give them what they want!
PS: If you’re struggling to think of what questions your customers have, try this…
Carry a notebook with you for a few weeks and write down every question you get asked by a customer. Then all you need to do is make sure the answers to all these questions are on your website!
