It’s fairly well accepted that if you run a business, you should be aiming to rank highly in Google searches.
In terms of being a decorator, this means, when someone types ‘painter and decorator near me’ into Google, you should aim to be the first business that pops up.
But what if you’re not top?
What if you’re second, third or even tenth on the list?
What sort of affect will this have on your enquiries?
Well, it can be quite dramatic.
The following graphic shows the Click Through Rate (CTR) for each position in a Google search.
As you can see, people click the top result 27.6% of the time! And it goes down quickly from there.
So, if you don’t get many visitors to your website, ranking low on Google searches will be a big factor.
Now we know how important it is to rank well on Google, how can you improve your position?

Believe me when I tell you, there is always something more you can do to improve your SEO. If you type in ‘SEO tips’ to Google, you’ll get millions of articles.
However, you’ve got to start somewhere, and in my opinion, the best place to start is by creating blogs / articles and adding them to your website.
Of course, these blogs can’t just be about anything. They need to be relevant to your customers and your business.
Fortunately, Google tells us what your customers want to know in their ‘People also ask section’

Like it or not, these are the questions people are typing into Google when it comes to Painting and Decorating.
So, if you create content that answers these questions, Google will put you at the top of the search results because you’re providing the most relevant answer to peoples questions.
Don’t get me wrong, it won’t happen overnight. It can take a long time to get to the top of Google, but for every position you climb in the rankings, your results will improve massively. (As shown in the below graphic) So, it’s worth the effort!
