Why you should put prices on your website as a Decorator

Ok, I understand why you might not have your prices on your website.

Every job is different, isn’t it?

Your competition might undercut you.

You want the opportunity to meet the customer and sell yourself before you give a price.

So, putting anything about pricing on your website is not a decision you should rush into.

But let’s look at the potential benefit of doing it.

I think it’s fair to say most potential customers are going to search Google before hiring a decorator.

Even if you were recommended, they are going to want to check you out online, and have a look at their other options.

Either way, if you can appear at the top of Google searches that’s a good thing for your business.

There are lots of things you can do to get to the top of Google, but one of the most effective ways is to simply make sure your website has the answers to the questions people are asking.

And when it comes to hiring a painter and decorator, some of the most common questions searched on Google are related to price.

In fact, if you type ‘Painter and decorator’ into Google, here are the top 10 related search terms:

  1. Painter and decorator near me
  2. Is it worth getting a painter and decorator?
  3. How much does a painter and decorator charge a day?
  4. How much should you pay for a painter and decorator?
  5. How much is a painter and decorator per hour?
  6. How much does it cost to paint a 3 bedroom house UK?
  7. Painter and decorator near me prices
  8. Recommended painter and decorator
  9. Cheap painter and decorator near me
  10. Lady painter and decorator near me

6/10 searches are related to the cost of hiring a painter and decorator.

So, what does this mean for you?

Well, it means that if you want potential customers to find you via Google, having information about pricing and costs on your website will mean more people clicking on your website.

How do you do this?

If you’re comfortable listing your hourly rate or day rate on your website, then having a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section detailing this information will work nicely.

Or simply having a ‘Pricing’ page will be good.

However, due to the nature of most decorating jobs, you might want to give a more in-depth explanation about how your pricing works.

Blogs are a great way to do this.

For example, you could add a blog to your website titled: ‘How much do I charge as a painter and decorator?’

In that blog you could detail how you typically quote and charge for work.

If you charge a day rate plus materials, then state what your day rate is.

If you charge higher rates, explain why. Talk about the difference in quality and service that comes from a £100 per day apprentice painter and a £250 per day experienced decorator.

Then give a real-life example of how you’d price a job for a 3-bedroom house.

If you’re clever with it, you could incorporate the answers to several of the most common search terms I listed earlier in one blog post.

This will mean that more and more people will end up finding you via Google and making enquiries.

And the added bonus…

Those people enquiring will already have a good idea of what they can expect to pay. So, you should get fewer people arguing over quotes.
