Before a customer gets in touch with you, there are a few things that must happen.
So, if enquiries are a little slow, perhaps your customer is missing one of the following 5 things:
- They haven’t seen your offer enough
Ever noticed how when you start searching for something online, you then start seeing adverts for similar products on your social media?
This is because marketers know that someone usually needs to see a business/product 8-10 times before they take the next step.
People don’t just see something once and then buy it straight away.
For example:
If someone is considering some decorating work, they’ll likely want to see your business 8-10 times before they make an enquiry.
This can come in the form of seeing you on social media, seeing your van around town, looking at your website and so on…
Make sure you’re consistently putting yourself out there so that you can build up to 8-10 touch points faster than your competitors.
2. They don’t feel anything yet
Purchasing decisions tend to be lead by emotion just as much as logic. In fact, the saying is that you buy something based on emotion, and justify it with logic.
If someone hasn’t got in touch, it might be because they don’t feel anything yet.
As a decorator, the easiest way to make someone feel something is to show transformations that they can relate to.
Show potential customers what their home and life could look like in a brand new looking kitchen / living room / bedroom etc.
3. They don’t see the value
Whenever you purchase something, you need to feel like you are getting value.
The question your customer is thinking is:
Will this purchase enhance my life enough to warrant the cost?
To prove the value, you need to come at it from a few angles;
Firstly, you need to show them how amazing their home could look once you’ve worked on it.
Secondly, you need to show them they are getting a service they couldn’t replicate themselves.
Show off the systems and techniques you use. Highlight the attention to detail you have.
Make them understand that you can deliver results that are far superior to anything they could do themselves.
And thirdly…show them how easy and stress free the process is when they let a professional do the job for them!
This alone has a lot of value for some people. Don’t forget it!
4. They don’t trust you yet
Building trust takes time. Especially when it involves trades people.
Like it or not, people are wary of trades people because there are cowboys out there.
Added to that, inviting someone into your home is a big deal for a lot of people.
One of the best ways to build trust as a business is to be consistent on social media.
Show people what you are up to on a daily basis. Show the work you’re doing and the happy customers you have.
Over time, people will get to know, like and trust you.
5. They don’t know how it works
Lots of customers have never used you before. And lots of them have never hired a decorator before.
So, they don’t know what to expect.
Ask a friend to have a look at your website and social media.
Get them to pretend they are interested in hiring you and to go through the process of making an enquiry.
Ask them if the process explained properly? Do they know what to expect? What questions do they have that they couldn’t find answers to?
And most importantly, was it easy enough to find your contact information and actually reach out!?
